Gay Ottawa Volleyball
Gay Ottawa Volleyball (GOV) is a volunteer, non-profit volleyball league catered mainly to the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer, and LGBTQ-friendly within Canada's National Capital Region (NCR). The league provides an inclusive and fun environment, but also serves as a healthy social venue for the LGBTQ community.
This year, Gay Ottawa Volleyball (GOV) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 22nd. The AGM will be held virtually, and will provide you an opportunity to take part in the discussion on the league’s strategic orientation, to vote on resolutions and to elect four individuals to the GOV Board of Directors.
Applications to serve as a volunteer on the GOV Board of Directors will be accepted from now until December 7, 2021.
If you are someone who is interested in joining a dynamic team that works to provide a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ2+ communities in the National Capital Region through the sport of volleyball, please consider applying today!
The Board is composed of eight director positions in total, with four (4) positions up for election each year for a two-year term.
Members of the Board of Directors are responsible for the management of GOV, and act honestly and in good faith in the best interests of the organization. In submitting your name for consideration, you acknowledge and agree to fill the role and responsibilities of a Director:
- Attend all Board meetings and participate fully in Board deliberations;
- Lead or assist in organizing GOV projects, events, or activities;
- Be informed of GOV programming, operations and finances; and
- Comply with GOV’s by-laws, policies, and all applicable legislation.
Nominations are open to all, with a view to having a diverse, talented and dedicated pool of candidates.
In order to be considered for a position on the Board at the election on December 22nd, candidates must submit a written statement—no longer than 250 words—explaining why you think you would be a good fit with the GOV. Be sure to highlight any skills or experience in non-profits (if applicable), fundraising and leadership that may help contribute to the ongoing success of GOV.
