The Gay Ottawa Volleyball Nominations Committee is accepting applications to serve on its volunteer Board of Directors.
Every year, four (4) positions of the GOV Board of Directors are up for election. The Board is composed of eight (8) director positions in total. The election will take place at the Annual General Meeting on December 13th 2020.
This is your time to step up and volunteer to help build the capacity of our league. We are working hard to get back out on the courts – it’s a challenge that we cannot address alone. We are looking to bring on new directors to help bring new skill talents and lived experiences that can lead and shape the organization going forward. If you have thought about volunteering or wanting to use your voice to affect change: now is your opportunity.
Applying to join the board is easier than ever! Just reach out to your network and share your vision with members about your vision, goals, and why you want to be on the board. You will need to let us know why you want to be on the board in a written statement no longer than 250 words.
All candidates should have passion and a commitment towards carrying out GOV’s mission of providing a safe environment for the LGBTQ (and allied) community through the sport of volleyball in the National Capital Region. GOV celebrates diversity and would like to ensure that its Board is representative of the broader GOV community. GOV participants and community members from underrepresented groups especially encouraged to submit their application to help make real change in our community.
By submitting your name in nomination as a candidate, you acknowledge and agree to fulfill the role and responsibilities of a Director. Every Director has a responsibility for the management of GOV, and has a legal obligation to act honestly and in good faith and with the best interests of the organization in mind. In particular, Directors are expected to:
• Attend all Board meetings and participate fully in Board deliberations;
• Be prepared to serve in Officer or Coordinator roles as required;
• Lead or assist in organizing GOV projects, events, or activities;
• Place the interests of GOV above any personal interests;
• Support Board decisions once they have been made;
• Be informed of GOV programming, operations and finances; and
• Comply with GOV’s by-laws, policies, and all applicable legislation.
Completed applications must be sent to Nominations@govleague.ca by 5:00pm on November 27, 2020 .
If you have any questions about the process or want to reach out prior to submitting your application feel free to contact Andre Scott, Chair of the Nominations Committee, at email@example.com.
